7 Observations about operational success in the ‘new’ Music Business.
As some of you know, it's been a minute since I was in the music biz. For the past 7 months, I've been consulting with some amazingly talented managers and artists at Arc Nashville. So, having dipped my toe back in the waters of the music biz. I've decided to put some insights in this blog.
In the ever-evolving music industry, artist management companies face a constant challenge: achieving operational success in marketing and promotion. Juggling diverse artist personalities, dynamic market trends, and limited resources can feel like a high-wire act. But fear not! By focusing on these key areas, you can create a winning formula for propelling your artists to new heights.
1. Deep Dive into Data & Analytics: Gone are the days of gut feeling marketing. Embrace data-driven insights to inform your decisions. Schedule social media posts, manage email campaigns, and track analytics – all while focusing on the strategic aspects of your campaigns. Rinse & repeat on the things that are working. Change directions when things fizzle. Ready, Fire, Steer!
6. Foster a Culture of Creativity & Innovation: Encourage your team (sometimes that's a team of one) to think outside the box and experiment with new ideas. Run those ideas by your trusted counsel. Stay ahead of the curve by exploring emerging technologies and social media trends. (easier said than done. There's a difference between bleeding edge and cutting edge. Remember, the music industry thrives on originality, so don't be afraid to take calculated risks. Also...online apps and promotions allow you to try stuff. If it doesn't work, Fail fast and fix even faster!
